BREAKING: Oakland Police Use Rubber Bullets, Flash Grenades, And Smoke Bombs To Evict Occupy Oakland

Late last night, Oakland police, under orders from the city, began surrounding the Occupy Oakland encampment in preparation to oust the protesters from Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Approximately an hour ago, hundreds of Oakland police officers raided the camp. Dressed in riot gear,

the police used rubber bullets, flash grenades, and gas canisters to forcibly evict and/or arrest the demonstrators who remained in the plaza. The Occupy Oakland Twitter account live-tweeted the raid:

How do governments affect access to information on the Internet? To help shed some light on that very question, last year we launched an online, interactive Transparency Report. All too often, policy that affects how information flows on the Internet is created in the absence of empirical data. But by showing traffic patterns and disruptions to our services, and by sharing how many government requests for content removal and user data we receive from around the world, we hope to offer up some metrics to contribute to a public conversation about the laws that influence how people communicate online.

Today we're updating the Government Requests tool with numbers for requests that we received from January to June 2011. For the first time, we're not only disclosing the number of requests for user data, but we're showing the number of users or accounts that are specified in those requests too. We also recently released the raw data behind the requests. Interested developers and researchers can now take this data and revisualize it in different ways, or mash it up with information from other organizations to test and draw up new hypotheses about government behaviors online.

We believe that providing this level of detail highlights the need to modernize laws like the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which regulates government access to user information and was written 25 years ago—long before the average person had ever heard [...]

The episode starts with Jay asking Alina – what are you doing? Alina says, nothing. Jay looks around and asks where is Abhay? Alina replies, he just left after lunch…you already forgot? Jay smirks, takes a deep breath and asks Alina, so you want to play a game? Let's play. I know very well where you have hidden Abhay; in basement garden…is not it? Alina worriedly says, what's wrong with you bhai? [Alina seems very scare of Jay]. Jay looks around and sees Alina's phone in her bed. Jay picks up Alina's phone and says from now on your phone will be with me so no one can chat with you. Alina tries to get her phone back and says what's wrong with you bhai? You know Abhay has to save her mother at any cost. But Jay gets more angry and does not allow Alina to take her phone. He angrily says to Alina that I don't have to learn from you how to behave with my enemy. Get it? He says stay here to Alina and adds you are not going to move anywhere from this room and I am locking it from outside. Alina knocks on the door and asks Jay to open the door for her but Jay walks away.

Scene shifts to Pia approaching Haseena in jungle. Pia says what happened auntie? Haseena touches the silver chain by mistake when she sees Pia but Haseena gets hurt. She asks Pia to go away as it's dangerous. But Pia says no auntie, I know your truth and I am here to help you. Haseena rolls down blood tears and is surprised to hear what Pia just said. She questions Pia, what? you know who we are? Pia conforms yes auntie because my memory has come back, so I know who Abhay and you guys are. Haseena still in blood tears says, you know I am a vampire and you know everything about us yet you accepted Abhay. NYT "Frugal Traveler" comes to Madison.

Concentrates on biking, eating burgers, and drinking Wisconsin beer (including Leinenkugel). Following some rule of frugal traveling, he stays in the outlying town of MacFarland, and then has to bike 10 miles to get back to his room at night — after tanking up with beer. I don't quite get that. He went to some of my favorite places — Olbrich Gardens, Picnic Point, the Capitol building. But he doesn't seem to notice any protesting. In fact, there's nothing about politics at all!

The insurance industry is paying increasing attention to what people and businesses post on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.


Already, scouring Facebook and other social network pages of the insureds is a common practice on the claims side of the business. Many investigators say it's one of the first things they do when looking into potentially fraudulent claims, including both hard fraud (staging auto accidents, etc.) and soft fraud. (over-reporting damaged values after a fire, etc.)
Crack the Data
Currently, social network data are being used as sources of evidence in courts of law in claims cases. Individual underwriters are retrieving risk evaluation information on their insureds through manual searches on social sites.

But in a few years, automatically mined data from social networking sites could find their way into the underwriting pricing process. It could become a factor in determining premiums for both personal and business insurance, according to a new report from Boston-based research firm Celent. The report, titled "Using Social Data in Claims and Underwriting," was published on Oct. 10.

Rita Moreno won an Oscar for playing Anita in "West Side Story," but she felt bad about having to trash Puerto Rico — you ugly island.
There were other issues, too. Co-directors Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins wanted a big contrast between the warring gangs, the Sharks and the Jets.

"So the white kids had to have their hair bleached and have extra-pale makeup," Moreno recalls, "and we had to wear all one-color makeup, almost the color of mud — and it felt like it. We all had to have accents — many of us who were Hispanic did not have them. I asked the makeup artist, 'Why do we have to be one color? Because Hispanics are many different colors.'"....

During the filming of West Side Story, she created her own Puerto Rican character with an amusing, exaggerated accent: Googie Gomez. "One day I hiccupped her," Moreno says, before singing, a la Googie: "'I had a drean, a drean about chu, bebe.'"
Here that is on YouTube, from "The Ritz," which as a Broadway show won Rita Moreno a Tony. Of course, Moreno had to fight off the accusations that she herself, with this Googie Gomez character, was trading in offensive ethnic stereotypes. Her answer seems to be: No, because it was so funny and because it was an exaggeration of a particular type of person that people recognize. Make sure you understand how to distinguish and an actual offensive ethnic stereotypes.
